Tekla Waterfield lives in the wide-open realm of Americana Roots music, incorporating elements of folk, country, indie, rhythm and blues, and soul. Her vocals ooze a delicate sincerity one moment and kick-butt virtuosity the next. When she collaborates with her producer/guitarist/husband, Jeff Fielder, the results are stellar. Waterfield writes gentle, encompassing lyrics that stick in your and heart long after a performance. One minute they inspire, then they are heartbreaking, one moment they are healing, and next they are blasting out fun.
Waterfield garnered critical acclaim and radio play when her song, Rock and Roll Man was featuring in the closing credits of 2019 indie feature film, Dakota, which went on to receive “Best Original Music” in the Richmond VA International Film Festival, “Best of Metro DC” at the DC Independent Film Festival, “Best Actress”, “Best Editing”, “Best of NOVA”, and “Best Score” at the North Virginia Film Festival. Tekla co-created, curated and produced a successful tribute series, the Great Women of Country Tribute series, featuring dozens of local womxn musicians performing renditions of well-loved country greats. She also curated the line up for the 2017 Americana Festival with Gigs4U and Friends of the Waterfront Seattle. She’s a founding member of the Womxn In Music Seattle group and volunteers at 91.3 KBCS as a live in-studio producer.
According to the Seattle Acoustic Festival, “Tekla is one of the most nuanced and individualistic voices in Seattle, and she heads up a band of incredible musicians that can mix it up in a cross-genre fusion of jazz, singer-songwriter, and jam band traditions.” According to the Folk Project Acoustic Stayaway.”
