The Folk Project is proud to present NJ Uke Fest , a weekend of workshops, concerts, and sing-alongs. Tickets for the entire three-day weekend of activities costs $85. This year’s version will be limited to 50 vaccinated ukulele fans, but the activities will be intensive and the fun will be unlimited.
NOTE: Tickets are only available for the full NJ Uke Fest weekend. Tickets are not available to attend this Friday concert only.
We open Uke Fest with a Friday concert featuring two of our ukulele favorites, Jim Boggia and Christine DeLeon. It will be a show to remember.
For more than 20 years, Jim Boggia has been winning over fans, critics, contemporaries and luminaries alike with his uncompromising devotion to the sort of winsomely nostalgic, emotionally direct songcraft that’s impervious to age. His sonically intelligent retro-pop manifesto informs three studio albums—2001’s Fidelity Is the Enemy, 2005’s Safe in Sound and 2008’s Misadventures in Stereo—and he’s worked with a startling array of artists, including Aimee Mann, Juliana Hatfield, Mike Viola, Tracy Bonham, Bernadette Peters, David Poe, NRBQ’s Big Al Anderson, famed Beach Boys lyricist Tony Asher, MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, Attractions drummer Pete Thomas, esteemed ’70s pop misfit Emitt Rhodes, and Canadian songstress Amanda Marshall. Also an accomplished singer and guitarist, Boggia performs with the well-known New York City-based Beatles tribute band, the Fab Faux, as well as Mad Dogs & Dominos, an 18-piece collective headed by a heavyweight roster that includes Blues Brothers alum Lou Marini and producer John Leventhal. Oh, and he plays a mean ukulele.
Opening for Jim is Project favorite Christine DeLeon, an astounding vocalist, a skillful songwriter, and a consummate musical communicator. Her clear, crystalline voice is often compared to the likes of Judy Collins and Joan Baez. Christine DeLeon was a finalist in the 2015 Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition, a winner in the 2014 Recording Artists Development Singing Contest, a three category nominee in the 2013 Jersey Acoustic Music Awards and a winner in the 2008 New Jersey Folk Festival Songwriting Competition. She has delighted audiences at concerts, festivals, coffeehouses and a myriad of venues across New Jersey and the Mid Atlantic states.
With skillful songwriting, impressive vocals and an unwavering connection with audiences of many musical tastes, Christine DeLeon has all the tools to win audiences hearts and delight their evenings.
