Unfazed by what a typical pop artist today is “supposed” to look or sound like, Heather Mae, an award-winning songwriter whose evocative vocals and rhythmic piano style call to mind artists like Stevie Nicks and Sara Bareilles, creates intoxicating music that tackles complex topics surrounding mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, self-love, racial injustice, social inequality, and women’s rights. Inspired by her own personal experiences and identities – a queer, plus size woman living with Bipolar Disorder – Mae is an on-fire musical and emotional experience. In her most sonically adventurous project yet, GLIMMER – her second produced record and first full length album – breaks the stigma surrounding mental health, reminding us all that we are not alone.
Here’s what Heather has to say:

“Hi, I’m Heather Mae. I’m a queer, fat, femme living out loud with mental illness and v proud of all of the above. As a social justice singer-songwriter, recording artist, and producer, I use my music and my writing to speak out and build community.

“A few years ago, I was told I’d never be allowed to sing again due to vocal nodules. Oof. Instead of surgery, I went silent for 8-months, followed by some intense vocal coaching, I got my voice back. I decided to dedicate my life, my career, my music, and my voice to social justice issues.

“In 2016, I released my EP, I AM ENOUGH, which focuses on racial justice, feminism, LGBTQ+ equality, and body liberation. In 2019, I released my first full length album, GLIMMER, a collection of 9-songs solely focused on one theme: mental health. I have Bipolar Disorder and a whole smorgasbord of other mental health delights but I realized that by talking about it, I was actually helping eliminate stigma and saving lives. I went on two US album release tours and sold out venues all over the country. GLIMMER was my glimmer in 2019.

“When the Pandemic hit, I added two new titles to my resume: community organizer and mental health writer. I know darkness v well. Depression is an old friend of mine and community is essential in times of darkness. Since March of 2020, I launched a bi-weekly livestream called Apart Together and an online fan club – Big Loud Love Club – that gathers for virtual workshops, classes, concerts, and community events that help my amazing humans stay connected in a time of so much disconnection.

“I call my fans my “amazing humans” because to exist in a world that makes it so hard to do so is truly amazing. Despite everything you’ve been through, despite everything they told you – YOU ARE STILL HERE. That is amazing and it’s my life’s work to remind you of that fact.

“XO, Your BFF, Heather Mae.”

Expect this concert to be fun, interesting, insightful, and endearing – a Stayaway not to be missed.
