Juliana Parker is making a big splash on the folk scene. If you missed her astounding opening set at our Livingston Taylor concert or her killer act at the Acoustic Getaway or her boffo success at her previous streaming Stayaway concert, you have a second chance to see and hear this talented, energetic and creative songwriter and performer. Juliana is a second-generation performer – proud member of the Edelston Clan – and has spent a lifetime in our Folk Project family.
Born and raised in Cos Cob, CT, in a highly musical family, Juliana was making up songs as soon as she could speak. On long car rides, she learned how to harmonize with her siblings and the radio. After participating in her high school’s Composers’ Showcase she knew there was no other profession for her, and she applied to attend Berklee College of Music.
Spring of 2017 she received the Songwriting Foundation Scholarship Award through Berklee, and was awarded runner-up in Radio Airplay’s Love Song 2017 Contest with “Waiting on the Line.” Spring of 2018, her song “Rhode Island Roads” was selected to be performed in Berklee’s Perfect Pitch, and the performer Mandy Kessler tied for Best Vocalist. Two months later, she graduated from Berklee College of Music, with a major in Songwriting and a minor in Musical Theater Writing. She also has been working closely with Livingston Taylor to perfect her songwriting and performance techniques.
On the piano she combines the sounds of pop and rock to connect with strangers and makes hearts move. Her major influences are Sara Bareilles, Billy Joel, Queen, and Taylor Swift. She was drawn to their emphasis on lyrics, emotion, and orchestration. Day after day, she collects snippits of thoughts and racing melodies until she doesn’t have room to write them down. When she takes the stage, Juliana has a way of making an audience feel right at home, always smiling and providing opportunities to laugh.
